HUNJIYA

I manage HUNJIYA through Kairo Management, the management company I founded, and continue to work with her on releases, partnerships and the day-to-day decisions of an independent music career.

Portrait of HUNJIYA.
Situation

Alice and I met in Seoul after connecting online. Her label contract had ended, and a conversation over coffee about where she wanted to take her music grew into us working together.

What I did

I help with release planning, partner outreach, publishing administration and finding collaborators, working from Alice’s creative direction and what she wants to make next.

What changed

We’re working toward her next EP, memory box, with plans for the release, collaborators and funding. My role is to help get the practical pieces in place so the music can reach people.

Working with Alice

I started Kairo Management as my own management company, and my work with Alice is ongoing. We work together on the plans and relationships around her music, with her creative direction guiding what we take on.

What drew me to HUNJIYA was the range in her work. Alice writes, produces and performs her music, and makes her own visuals. A close, conversational song can turn into a full electronic production without losing the feeling that you’re hearing directly from her.

When we started working together, we talked about where she wanted to go and which opportunities would actually help her get there. We meet regularly to work through the decisions around releases and collaborations, as well as the smaller things that can pile up when you’re doing this independently.

My work includes partner outreach, contract conversations and connecting her with writers, producers and musicians. For a live performance, I reached out to my network to find keys, bass and drums; for the next EP, I put together a funding proposal and detailed budget. I also help with catalog submissions and claiming publishing rights.

Her releases since KHAMAI include tourguide, bandmates with Naji, echo, palindrome, hypochondriac and bringmedown with Anaïs. She also made an official remix of TAEYEON’s To. X, and swimrabbit’s EVOLUTION, featuring HUNJIYA, received a Korean Music Awards nomination for Best Electronic Song.

We’re now finishing memory box. The work for me is in understanding what Alice wants the record to be, then helping find the people and resources to carry it through. The recognition below is for Alice’s work; her British Vogue, NYLON and PAPER coverage predates my management.
